Handbag item makes personal details disappear from labels

With concerns around privacy and security, we’re all keen to quickly and easily remove our details from labels before recycling the packaging they’re on.
Some options are using specially designed roller stamps that make the text unreadable, covering the details with a permanent marker or scratching them off.
But the easiest way to completely erase those details is actually already in your home and likely in your handbag.

Cleaning expert Lynsey Crombie revealed in a TikTok video that hand sanitiser can remove your name and address from packaging labels.
“Did You Know This Simple Hack? Before recycling your parcel boxes, just use a bit of hand sanitizer to easily remove any personal details! It’s quick, effective, and ensures your info stays private. Give it a try next time—easy peasy,” she captioned the clip.
To remove the text on the label, all Crombie does is squirt some hand sanitiser on a paper towel and then rub it off using circular motions.
We tried this hack to see if it worked. Using a cloth we added a little hand sanitiser (a different brand to the one Crombie used) and startsed rubbing at a label on a parcel bag.
It wasn’t long before the information started to disappear and we kept rubbing until there wasn’t a faint hint of any details – it did take some elbow grease, though.

This probably took as long as covering all the information in permanent marker and looks more effective.
While it is slightly slower than a roller stamp (though not by much at all), hand sanitiser is something most of us already have so it means we can save a little cash on buying another gadget.
People who viewed Crombie’s TikTok shared their own hacks for removing details from packaging labels.
One said that water works to remove information from Amazon labels while another recommended baby wipes.
While you’ve got the hand sanitiser out, apparently it can also remove sticky residue from labels as well as ink and grease stains.
The reason hand sanitiser is effective for the above uses is because it has a high alcohol content.
